A Day On The Lake

It was a nice and quite morning on the lake on Sat. morning. A slight breeze and it was about 65 degrees.
I can't tell you the name of the lake except that is one of 14000 in Wisconsin.

Today it was mostly one bait that they would take and I had to be on the wind side of the lake.

This is the first one that I caught and was 22 inches long.

I ended up with 2 that were 22 inches and 3 more
that were 17 inches or longer.

Time to Go

It is time to leave this camp so I called over to Anchorage to get a hotel for tonight. I am staying at the Holiday Inn express for $301.28, for one night. I hope the free breakfast is exceptional this time as the rate went up $27 since last Monday.
Anyway, it is always good to be done and to move onto the next adventure.

This is a picture of the baby moose we encountered while on our way to the bear stand. I wish I could have got closer but it is the best we could do. If you click on the photo and then navigate around the little moose shows up much better.

These are some wildflowers out in the bush. I think they are lupines.

The Great Northwest

Hi Gang,
Greetings from Beluga, Alaska. Beluga is just across the Cook Inlet and I am back in the same power plant that I was at a month ago. This time we are putting the generator back together, well we are suppose to be putting the generator back together. It is very slow here. What I thought would be a few day job will probably turn out to be at least a week.

The real story is getting here. I was scheduled to leave Minneapolis at 11:40 a.m. Something happened to the plane somewhere else that made it late getting to MSP. Keep in mind that I am suppose to get on a bush plane for Beluga at 5:30p.m. We were constantly being given false, I know that it is hard to believe, by NWA gate employees until they finally announced at 2p.m. we would be using a different plane.
I got on the phone and called the customer and told them that I wouldn't make that flight to Beluga on Monday afternoon. I called for a room at the Holiday Inn Express and they told me they had a couple of rooms left. Cost, you better sit down on this one, with tax - $276.43 for one night. Good thing I don't pay for it.
Back to the plane. We all boarded the plane at about 1:45p.m. We waited and finally, I know you are going to have a hard time believing this, we were given some more false hope o leaving the airport. After about 35 minutes they finally told us that one of the bathrooms wasn't working. There were 6 NWA people working on this one, gravity fed toilet. After 50 minutes on the plane, they finally decided to lock that particular toilet and we would leave.
Finally after a 4 hour and 20 minute delay we took off.
As for the rooms up here, once I got here I checked around and found out that the cheapest, Super 8 and Comfort Inn, are at $188 per night.
Anyway I did make it but having the customer provide a room for me in their remote camp is another story for another blog.

Knife Update

Nana and I were discussing the knife situation and we think it may have been in the compost pile for 2 summers and winters. We are getting older and cannot remember as well anymore.

As far as suspects in the knife thievery, we cannot name names of the innocent. And everyone is innocent now. We apologize for the terrible thoughts to the suspects.

The Case of The Missing Knife

Sometime last year, we lost a knife. We looked high and low for it but to no avail. Nana, not Jonesie, accused some relative of swiping the knife. Well, I couldn't say they didn't as relatives were in the area on or about the time the knife came up missing.
So we finally wrote it off and Nana ordered a new knife.
Last week we were turning over the compost pile when guess what we found. Yes it was the missing knife that survived a year in the compost pile. That meant that it was in the heat and wetness of the summer and the minus 20 degrees in the winter.

The knife not only survived but after a little clean up, the knife looked as though it never left the knife drawer in the kitchen. I can report that it is safe and sound back in the knife drawer

If you ever need a new knife, here is what you need to buy. It is a Victorinox knife. The only one to buy.

A Deer Favorite

This is Nana's azalea this year. Every year it is a battle to see if the buds are going to come out or are the deer going to have one of their favorite treats.
This year Nana won the battle. This year we have a doe with a single fawn on the south side of the house and a doe with twins on the north side of the house. This is all mixed in with a few bucks wandering thru once in a while.
Nana catches the deer sneaking out of the woods and into the yard looking for treats. She then opens the window and yells at them to scram. They usually do!!!

A SPECIAL DAY

Today is a special day for me and yesterday was a special day for pdxkatie.

Today is day 150 for not smoking and that translates to a savings of about $727 so far. And I quit smoking in time for the gas price to continue to go up. You just can't win!

For PDXKATIE, yesterday was day 150 without a diet coke.

So we are both feeling quite smug about our accomplishments.
