Around The House With Manny

This week's menu included BBQ ribs. I tried something new and used a pan of water under the ribs while on the grill. I then transferred them to the oven and also had them over a pan of water. They were quite moist.

The dry rub got a little warm this time, my lips are still warm 30 minutes after eating them. All in all they turned out okay. Along with the ribs we had cole slaw, squash from last summer' garden, corn and The Unforgiven Beer.

I am not hungry at this point.

Spring Valley Fishing Derby

The annual fishing derby was this past weekend and as you can see they had a nice turnout. It was close to 30 degrees which is great for Feb. In WI.

My luck was not the greatest as I only caught 2 small crappies and let them go, not even registering them.
I stayed for about 3 hours at which time, and it was only noon, some of the fishing competitors were getting a liquored up and started to race the engines in their trucks. Some were getting a little loud and I really didn't want to hear about all their problems while I was fishing so I drove off the lake on the end that wasn't very crowded.

A Manny's Work is Never Done

So, I have nothing better to do on Thursday evening, Nana asked if I would make Penne with Italian Sausage and Spinach. Sure I will give it a shot and here are the results.

AS you can see it takes a big skillet for this project

The end result was that is was okay. not bad but looked better than it was. After 2 servings I would say that I would make it again but maybe with some other kind of sausage.

In conclusion I think there may be a morning TV show from all of this cooking and baking.
How about "Around the Kitchen with Manny"
"The Manny in His Kitchen"
"Cooking With The Manny"
"Calling All Manny's"
"My Manny"
"Stirring The Pot With Manny"

I mentioned earlier that there wasn't much going on at the farm. So I find this recipe in "Everyday Foods" for Pecan Sticky Buns.
So because all the snow is shoveled I decide to try making them and here are the results.

Here they are in the oven baking in Nana's new oven.

And here is the finished product and YES they taste even better than they look.

February, the shortest month and the longest month here in the Midwest.
Nothing much going on right now. We, meaning myself and Nana, are anxiously awaiting this weekend as it is the famous Spring Valley Fishing Derby. Nana always looks foreword to trying to win the grand prise - a new ice auger, or second $100 savings bond. Yes, Spring Valley goes all out for this annual event.
I will put out some pictures soon after the contest is over. Who knows we may see a photo of someone we know holding a new ice auger!

I hear a lot of talk about how much day care for kids drains the checkbook every week. Well, here in the valley we will not put up with such high costs in these tough economic times.
At Ms. Regina's Preschool you can see that they know how to stretch a dollar. Maybe the kids get a Pop Tart and a glass of water for lunch or she hires the kids out for snow shoveling. I don't know but for $10 a day no one seems to be complaining.
