It is a tough job but someone has to do it

I arrived at midnight last night on Galveston Island. This is my new home for a few days. I have a room that overlooks the gulf. The pictures are of the view from my room and the small things in the background are sailboats. There were hundreds of the out today.
I went to safety training today and start work in the morning.

No sitting Down for Jonesie

I just returned from Lowell, MA. Thinking I was going to get some good tree stand time I went to the woods on Tuesday afternoon. It was quite a successful hunt. I had a doe fawn stand in front of me then a bit later a buck fawn stood in front of me.
As I was watching the little ones, 5 more deer went running by me. I have no idea what they were.

I get back to the Digs and find that I have to leave for Texas City, TX on Wed. I wasn't to happy about that.

So my blog time is very short lately.

Running on Empty

There I was, sitting in my digs on Thursday and the phone rings. Keep in mind I was all set to go out deer hunting that evening.

Before I knew what was happening, I was on my way to Eau Claire to ren a car and a long drive to Jolite, IL. I will only be here for 2 days and will have to drive back home on Saturday. (Thank god for xm radio)

Then on Sunday I have to go to Lowell, Ma for a couple of days. I then think I will be off to Coffeyville, KS for a few days.

Enough about me.

This and That on the Farm

As you may have noticed, I lost the text on my blog. It was PDX Katie to the rescue. I had played with the colors of the blog and forgot to change the color of the text. It is all fixed now thanks to PDX Katie.

Been busy on the road so haven't had much time to blog but here is some catch up.

Still raining every other day so we are quite soggy everywhere we walk.

Still getting ready for winter, little by little. Today it was put the water hoses away, get out the outdoor furniture covers, push some leaves around, and this before it is to start raining again.

I have been out deer hunting in the am and pm but haven't seen many deer. The ever elusive and highly sought after gray squirrels have been around a lot. Last night there was a owl that came gliding thru the woods.

I think it is time for a nap.

AW NUTS

I was outside today and tried to start the 4 wheeler and it didn't run very well. So I took the top off to the air cleaner and look at what I found. There must have been over 50 hickory nuts in the air compartment.
I cleaned all of them out but it still didn't help with starting the 4 wheeler.

Mouse Trap Jonesie

We have had a family, including cousins, of mice in the garage.
To start out, I went fishing one day and while putting on my waders, I thought that I had left a sock in the right foot of the waders. I turned the waders inside out and out ran a mouse. I then had to clean out a half a roll of paper towels that it had used for a home.
A few days later, I went fishing with the boat and parked the boat in the garage. The first of my mistakes!
During the evening hours, as I was in the garage, a mouse ran across the floor while the 2 cats sat and watched it go by. So I decided it was up to me, seeing as how the guard cats weren't doing their job, to catch the mouse.
That night I set a trap on the floor of the garage and 1 in the boat. The next morning I had 2 dead mice. So I set three traps in the boat. The next day I had one mouse and the cheese was gone from the other 2 traps.
I set the traps and then had to leave for California. Two days later, I talked to Nana and she told me it smelled in the garage. I said check the raps in the boat. Sure enough there was a dead mouse in a trap. Instead of emptying the trap, Nana opened a window to air out the garage. Little did we realize the screen had a hole in. It was like a neon sign to all the relatives to come on in.
When I got home, I not only found the dead mouse in the trap, but there were 4 more baby mice laying dead next to the one in the trap.
I removed the deceaced mice and set the traps and got 2 mice that night. The next night I got 2 more mice. Then the light finally turned on, I thought I should try closing the window.
Since the window has been closed, the mouse trapping has dwindled to nothing.

Nana's Flower Arrangement

Nana is always busy creating something nice for the house. These flowers and leaves are from the farm.
